Products - Understanding Products on Zupply
On Zupply there are a few concepts we need to understand that makes Zupply a powerful product management tool. Here are the main concepts:
Products
On Zupply, Products are built to capture all the ways that you buy and sell the product. And as we enable inventory of products, we allow our users to build their products so that all these variations of how we buy/sell them are handled in the one product.
For example, if you buy/sell Tomatoes then we need to define the “units of measure” of each way we buy/sell Tomatoes.
So in the example of Tomatoes, we have:
So in Zupply we have the PRODUCT type being Tomatoes, and the LINE ITEMS being Box and Kilogram.
We identify these three types by:
Default Unit
We have another concept called “Default Unit”.
Unit Weight
Once we have set up our products, and defined our Default Unit, we want inventory to tell us how much total inventory is in stock. We use the term Unit Weight to calculate the inventory. In the example of the Product Tomato the box weighs 10kg - so we can sell a box or 10 individual kilograms.
Therefore:
Meaning every time we sell 11 kilograms stock will be used by 1.1 boxes.
